About

Figure 1. One of the free race photos they sent me after I ran in a local half-marathon event in September, 2023. I am the guy on the right in the gray shirt. I always look awful in race photos because I almost always look awful in all kinds of photos.

I started this blog in order to increase my knowledge, understanding, and enjoyment of my hobby of running (and related activities), which is something that brings joy to my life and hope that I can find pathways for maintaining and improving my health, happiness and ability to contribute to the same among those in my “zone of influence.”

I do not currently have a clear picture of who my audience might be, other than myself. In fact, I think it is possible I will be the only audience.

My rate of blog-rating has been slow.

Initially, I would sit down in my reclining chair with my standard post-Saturday morning run big bowl of oatmeal (plus berries, kale, flax meal, hemp hearts, acacia fiber, cinnamon, beet root powder, etc.) and work on my laptop computer until I was done eating, which usually was not long because I am always hungry after running and eat fast.

As I started trying to put more time into this project, our dear cat, Bernie, became a major impediment to progress.

We have two cats. They have always enjoyed keeping me company when I sit in the recliner (see Figure 2, from six years ago). Our senior cat, Parker, likes to sit on my legs, which does not impede working on a laptop that much (except for preventing me from getting up at will). Our junior cat, Bernie, has always been a lap-user. When he was younger, Bernie fit reasonably well in the space in front of my laptop, so I could still work on it. However, Bernie has gotten a lot bigger (his current weight is 16.3 pounds!) and when he lies on my lap there is just no space for my computer and any blog-writing has to wait (see Figure 3).

Figure 2. Six years ago, having Bernie on my lap still left enough room to work on my laptop.
Figure 3. Bernie and Parker, waiting for me to try to work on this blog. Unfortunately, Bernie on my lap no longer leaves me any way to use my laptop computer.
